About the Quintet
Quintet Piazzolleky was formed by 5 young men from various parts of Slovenia. The idea of forming a quintet, which was realised in 2006, was inspired by a wish to play the music of Argentine composer Astor Piazzolla (1921-1992). Piazzolla’s band played with the same line-up of violin, piano, guitar, bass and bandoneon. Quintet Piazzolleky, however, dropped the bandoneon in favour of the accordion.

In its 5 years, the quintet has held concerts in Italy, Austria, Serbia, Croatia, and Belgium and all over Slovenia, and performed in halls such as Union Hall in Maribor, Vatroslav Lisinski-Hall in Zagreb, and Kolarevac-Hall in Belgrade, to name just a few. They are regular guests at the Lent Festival, and have performed at other events such as: Najstfest, Summer in Bertoki, Carniola, Nei suoni dei Luoghi, Festival of Love, Jeunesses Musicales International (JMI) festival in Antwerp, Festival Castelfidardo, Harmonika Festival in Beltinci, Mürski Festival, …
To the list of their achievements we can also add winning the Pentagramma per cinque competition, and they finished second in the Castelfidardo Festival Competition, category Piazzolla. Since autumn 2009, they have been collaborating with the outstanding singer Ana Bezjak of the band Papir. Throughout the past year, they have also performed classical dance tango, which proved to be a success in Gran Milonga Sin Frontreras 4 in Ljubljana, and the international Milonga concert in Maribor.
